More from Katie...
I was born in Clarinda, IA and have played the piano since the age of five. I began playing on my grandmother’s upright, which had been made and shipped especially for Grandma to perform at the Chicago World’s Fair. (It even still has the blue ribbon on the back!) I then began accompanying at the age of 12.
I attended college at Northwest Missouri State University where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in education. I went on to teach elementary school in Wamego, KS where I won the Kansas Horizon Award, an award honoring and recognizing outstanding first year teachers.
After my husband graduated from law school we then relocated to Sedalia where I taught for three years as the instrumental and vocal instructor in Sweet Springs, MO.
Currently, I am the vocal music instructional assistant/accompanist at Smith-Cotton Junior High and Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia. I have also accompanied and performed in various venues throughout the United States, as well as Tamana, Japan. I am currently in my 2nd year playing for Broadway Presbyterian as the choir accompanist.

Still wondering about the religious power of Les Mis? Check out these lyrics from the finale:
Do you hear the people sing - lost in the valley of the night? It is the music of a people who are climbing to the Light.
For the wretched of the earth there is a flame that never dies. Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
They will live again in freedom in the garden of the Lord. They will walk behind the plough-share, they will put away the sword. The chain will be broken and all men will have their reward.
Amen.
